Another Flashing Chance At Bliss

Has Boyles Even Read The Public Campaigns Law?

I’m reminded by today’s Theo of one other new element to the Boyles problem.

Boyles said in a written statement that she’s asked Vladimir Golovan, whose fundraising work is at the heart of the criminal investigation, to return money she’s paid him. She didn’t specify how much that is. She’s also asked him to be “fiscally responsible for damages to the campaign and the city of Portland.”

It’s a nice idea, and good luck to her with that. But as far as the law is concerned, if it’s determined that Boyles’ campaign must return the public funds given to her (plus 12% interest, if her certification is revoked), the obligation to do so is entirely upon her, whether or not Golovan heeds her request.
