More Police Union Wingnuttery

Blogtown points to the latest wingnuttery out of Robert King’s House of Wingnuttery (otherwise known as the Portland Police Association).

Amy Jenniges pretty much highlights all the most relevant bits from Det. Peter Simpson’s “Editor’s Statement” — most utterly reprehensibly of which would be his parroting of other earlier insinuations that James Chasse’s family wasn’t there for him and didn’t care about him enough when he was still alive.

Jenniges highlights really speak for themselves, but I do want to skip down to the other part from which she quotes, where Simpson tries out a few sample statements he wishes had been made by Mayor Potter. Suffice it to say that Simpson wanted Potter to express unqualified, unmitigated, and unhedged support for the officers involved in Chasse’s death.

Given the other revelations about an earlier excessive force case against one of those involved officers, Simpson clearly is just talking out his ass.

Or, more accurately, talking out of Robert King’s ass, since apparently the rank and file officers of the Portland Police Bureau simply elect a cadre of wingnuts with which the head wingnut can surround himself.

Not that anyone will care, but from now on I will consider the police union’s position on any policy or ballot measure upon which they take a position, and seriously weigh taking the opposing stance, until and unless the rank and file stops electing schmucks to represent them.
