Fly Away Little Butterfly, Just Flutter Away

What Is The Medical Examiner Smoking?

Remember when the medical examiner was busily giving statements to the press that James Chasse died of broad-based blunt force trauma to the chest? And how it was the sort of injury which could have been sustained as a result of Chasse falling down?

Well, the attorneys for Chasse’s family have released the medical examiner’s autopsy report, and according to KGW, it shows that Chasse suffered multiple broken ribs (something around a dozen sixteen of them) to both the left and right sides in the front, and in the back, which led to a punctured lung and massive internal bleeding.

(By the way, is it just me, or has not a single local news website actually posted the autopsy report so that we can all read it for ourselves?)

Clearly I am in no way, shape, or form a doctor of any kind. But I don’t think I’m off-base to wonder aloud how in the world the medical examiner could say with a straight face that multiple broken ribs (something around a dozen sixteen of them) to both the left and right sides in the front, and in the back, which led to a punctured lung and massive internal bleeding is the sort of thing that could have happened as a result of Chasse “falling” down.

Also, anyone want to take a stab at explaining to me how the officers at the scene could have missed the sort of suffering Chasse must have been experiencing as the result of multiple broken ribs (something around a dozen sixteen of them) to both the left and right sides in the front, and in the back, which led to a punctured lung and massive internal bleeding, and decided it was okay to just try to take him to jail?

Meanwhile, more on the Chasse death and its aftermath, as ever from Jack, and over at the Merc’s Blogtown. And via Portland Copwatch, the Mental Health Association of Portland is maintaining a list of links to news coverage.
