The Most Awesome Thing Ever

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

“As President Bush took a question Thursday in the White House Rose Garden about scandals involving his Attorney General, he remarked, ‘I’ve got confidence in Al Gonzales doin’ the job,’” reports ABC via Crooks and Liars. “Simultaneously, a sparrow flew overhead and left a splash on the President’s sleeve, which Bush tried several times to wipe off.”

Viceroy Cheney’s ‘End Run Strategy’

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

“Multiple sources have reported that a senior aide on Vice President Cheney’s national security team has been meeting with policy hands of the American Enterprise Institute, one other think tank, and more than one national security consulting house and explicitly stating that Vice President Cheney does not support President Bush’s tack towards Condoleezza Rice’s diplomatic efforts and fears that the President is taking diplomacy with Iran too seriously,” reports The Washington Note. “This White House official has stated to several Washington insiders that Cheney is planning to deploy an ‘end run strategy’ around the President if he and his team lose the policy argument.” [Emphasis added.]

I Do Not Think That Word Means What You Think It Means

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

Earlier today, the official website of the Boston Red Sox referred to Curt Schilling as our “ace”. Even prior to today’s performance, that hasn’t been true for quite some time. Certainly so far this season, it’s Josh Beckett (with his 7-and-0 record) who qualifies for the term. At this point, I suggest that Schilling spend a little less time blogging long-winded explanations and excuses for why he’s pitching like shit every time he takes the mound, and a little more time on learning how to pitch.

Edwards Pushes The Button

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

“The war on terror is a slogan designed only for politics, not a strategy to make America safe. It’s a bumper sticker, not a plan,” John Edwards said today. “It has damaged our alliances and weakened our standing in the world. As a political ‘frame,’ it’s been used to justify everything from the Iraq War to Guantanamo to illegal spying on the American people. It’s even been used by this White House as a partisan weapon to bludgeon their political opponents. Whether by manipulating threat levels leading up to elections, or by deeming opponents ‘weak on terror,’ they have shown no hesitation whatsoever about using fear to divide.”

I Can See You

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

Very early this morning, someone in Turkey ran this Google search, and I wish I could have seen their reaction when they discovered that the first hit was a page which must have answered pretty much any questions they might have had.

Baby Pigeons Exist

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

Unfortunately, I didn’t have my camera with me at the time, but yesterday while waiting for my bus to work, I saw an adult pigeon feeing a baby pigeon, atop the Cameron’s Books block. Every now and again, someone seems to ask why we never see baby pigeons. But now I’ve seen one.

Taking A Dump On Curiously-Strong Mayor

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

Who dumped on Team Potter the day before the election? (By which I mean dumped loads of cash, not dumped loads of derision.) Williams and Dame Development (that’s Homer Williams) gave $15,000 on top of their earlier contribution. Nawzad Othman of Otak gave $1,000. J. Duncan Campbell of timber investment firm The Campbell Group gave $1,000. Tom Walsh gave $2,500. Freightliner gave $5,000. Siltronic gave $5,000. Fox Tower gave $10,000. And Azumano Travel gave $2,500. SUch a shame that they failed in their mission to increase access for the disenfranchised.

What’s In A Name?

Monday, May 21st, 2007

This is late, but I feel compelled to point out how appropriate it is that one particular reader comment on this Trib article from last Friday — “If all these ‘underprivaledged,’ (sic) people were forced to pay there (sic) own way, without government handouts, maybe they would reavaluate (sic) their choices in life and do something to actually improve their situation.” — was posted by “Chud”, which everyone knows stands for Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers.

‘Lie Boyles: Friend To Spammers!

Monday, May 21st, 2007

Several days ago I noted the irony of ‘Lie Boyles helping to combat spam on a Montana discussion forum. Since then, I’ve checked in to see if there’s anything new. Thankfully, there is. Oh, how I love that I make myself check up on these things.
