You Call It Culture, We Say It's Disease

As I Like It

Something like two decades ago, I obsessively was reading the plays of prolific playwright Don Nigro (recently mentioned here), including ordering from Samuel French manuscripts of plays they hadn’t yet published. I’ve only managed (and, again, something like twenty years ago) to see one production, of a play called The Curate Shakespeare’s As You Like It. Specifically, a production in Vermont which butchered the critical moment at the end meant to give the play the entirety of its meaning. This morning I discovered that the Lakewood Theatre Company shortly will hold auditions for a production of that very play early next year. I don’t really care if the production is extraordinary or horrible. I just hope they get it right.
